AU Library Interlibrary Loans (ILL)


ILL Books ILL Chapter of a Book ILL Journal Articles ILL Conference Proceedings and Papers ILL Theses and Dissertations ILL Government Documents

AU Faculty, Staff, Tutors, Subject Matter Experts, and Coaches
  • May request photocopies of journal articles, papers from conferences or chapters from books.
  • May also request books, government documents and conference proceedings from another institution.
  • Dissertations are available through Proquest Dissertations and Theses Full Text. Please fill out an ILL web form if your dissertation search is unsuccessful.
  • A complete journal issue is not lent or photocopied.

Turnaround Time and Delivery of Materials

Interlibrary Loan requests are processed daily. The library receives most materials within 7-10 working days from the date of the order. Some difficult to locate items may take up to 6 weeks to receive.

Photocopies are sent to the address registered on the patron's library account.

Delivery options of returnable materials include:

  • Canada Post mail to the patron's home address

Please specify your preferred delivery option of returnable materials on the web form when placing your request.


Loan Period

Materials are loaned for 5 weeks and are renewable once for 5 weeks.

Please return all Interlibrary Loaned materials on, or before, the due date to the ILL office in AU library.


Restrictions on Use

Any restrictions will be clearly indicated on the book band. These may include no photocopying, use of materials in AU library only, or a readers signature as part of the loan process. Interlibrary Loan patrons are bound by any restrictions on use imposed by the lending institution.


Lost or Damaged Materials

The lending library assesses the charges for lost or damaged items. The Interlibrary loan patron is responsible for payment of all charges levied.


Copyright

The copyright law of Canada (The Copyright Act and subsequent Bills) governs the use of copyrighted materials, including the making of photocopies and/or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Material provided by the Athabasca University Library to its users is in accordance with Canadian copyright law. If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes other than for research or private study, that user may be liable for copyright infringement. Athabasca University Interlibrary Library Loans Office reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order, if, in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
